Hosts
Polish Communication Association was established on 22 April 2007 at the Founding General Assembly of the PCA in Wrocław. Representatives of several academic centres in Poland took part in the event. However, the very idea of establishing the Association was put forward a year earlier during the 50ieth anniversary conference of studies on media and communication in Poland (held in March 2006 in Wrocław).
The Institute of Journalism and Media Communication
(IJMC) of the University of Silesia has been operating
in its current form since October 1, 2019, after separating from
the Institute of Political Science and Journalism. However, the
journalism specialization at the University of Silesia will
celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025! The beginnings of
scientific research on journalism at the University of Silesia
are related to the activities of the Department of Journalism,
established in 1977, a unit within the structure of the then
Institute of Political Science.
The research conducted by IJMC employees today focuses on media
systems with particular emphasis on local and regional
communication, social reception of the press, and press analysis
of content. The research work of IJMC employees also includes
political communication, political marketing and international
communication. An essential part of the institute's scientific
activity is the analysis of discourse and media linguistics,
rhetoric and genology. Groundbreaking research on the scale of
Poland is also undertaken related to communication subjectivity
and the relations between media, religion and the state.
