The Institute of Journalism and Media Communication at the University of Silesia in Katowice is a research centre engaged in diverse and interdisciplinary inquiries into contemporary social communication and media. The Institute's academic team carries out projects on a wide range of topics, including political communication, propaganda and disinformation, crisis and religious communication, war and peace journalism, local media, and media systems across Europe. Our research also encompasses gender equality, the representation of women in media, local government communication, media education, the relationship between media and political elites, as well as international and intercultural communication.

A significant part of our work is devoted to mediolinguistics and media genology, with particular attention paid to genre awareness among media producers and audiences, the multimodality of press texts, graphic elements in communication, and visual persuasion. We also reflect on the transformations of communication models in the context of digitalization, globalization, and social polarization.

The Institute is involved in numerous research projects funded by the National Science Centre (OPUS, PRELUDIUM), as well as by international programs such as Horizon 2020 and Jean Monnet, and various bilateral and European grants. These include studies on papal authority in the era of digital communication, church–media–state relations, connections between media and political elites, and governmental communication during the pandemic. We have also participated in international initiatives addressing media freedom, crisis communication, European integration, and digital civic engagement.

It is within this framework that we warmly invite you to attend the 7th Congress of the Polish Communication Association (PTKS) in Katowice. We are confident that this gathering will provide a space for thoughtful reflection, meaningful exchange, and the establishment of new collaborations among scholars in communication, media studies, and cultural research.

We hope that Katowice will not only be a place of scientific encounter for you, but also an inspiration for further explorations of joint projects.

You are cordially invited!
